The Emmy nominations have been unveiled and as expected, the year's biggest TV show, Game of Thrones, leads the pack. The former earned 23 nominations (including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress). The Emmys also embraced some much-needed change, nominating the critically acclaimed The Americans and newcomers Mr. Robot and Master of None for the first time. The awards show airs September 18.
In June, Kim Kardashian made headlines for a GQ interview where she claimed Taylor Swift "approved" Kanye West's controversial lyrics about her in his track, "Famous." In an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kardashian was shown explaining her decision to talk about Swift in the interview. "It’s like, she legitimately says, 'As soon as I get on that Grammy red carpet, I’m gonna tell all the press I was in on it,'" she said. "[It's] just another way to play the victim. Definitely got her a lot of attention the first time."
In an interview with PEP.ph, Encantadia star Rocco Nacino finally confirmed his breakup with Lovi Poe after months of speculation. He declined to go into detail about the breakup, but stressed that no third party was involved. "It was a good two years. [It] was a relationship full of love, definitely," he said. "I wish her good luck sa mga endeavors niya."

A gunman killed 84 people and wounded many more after barreling a truck two kilometers through a crowd while they were watching the fireworks at Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France. It was the evening celebration of Bastille Day, July 14, which is "a symbolic day in a symbolic place" according to Eric Ciotti of the National Assembly of France. The attacker was shot dead by the police.
Staunch Duterte supporter Freddie Aguilar revealed in an interview that the president's executive assistant Christopher Go asked him to lead the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. "Tinawagan ako ni Bong Go at sabi sa akin, 'Sir Freddie, hangga't wala pa po iyong department of culture and the arts na hinihingi po ninyo sa presidente ay puwede po bang kayo po muna ang mamahala sa NCCA?... Sabi ko, 'Sige, kung iyon ang ia-assign sa akin ng presidente, gagawin ko iyon muna," he said.
Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa said on July 14 at the 24th Defense and Sporting Arms Show in Mandaluyong City that they are now streamlining and automating the application process for getting a gun permit. Requirements for a license to own and possess firearms have been reduced to just four from 10 clearances. Applications filed by 11 a.m. should be finalized by the Firearms and Explosives Office before the 5 p.m. deadline.
