(SPOT.ph) President Rodrigo Duterte’s first SONA was a first in many ways. It may be the first time the militants were actually supportive, the first time politicians dressed down, and the first time we got to see a SONA shot in many unusual angles. Acclaimed filmmaker Brilliante Mendoza got mixed reviews for his unconventional camerawork, and the Internet had a lot of fun.
Here are the rest of the week's highlights, in quotes!
“In life, you are not always on top.” — Piolo Pascual on life.
A very important life lesson.
“If we cannot, as yet, love one another, then in God’s name, let us not hate each other too much.” — President Rodrigo Duterte on trying to get along.
Can we apply this to "collateral damage," though?
"He was able to show that he does not take things personally even if we don’t agree on some serious matters.” — Sen. Leila de Lima on her brief encounter with the president before the SONA.
"Hindi naman lahat ng nanonood admittedly ay film literate." — Brilliante Mendoza responding to comments about his unique directing style for the SONA.
Because beauty is in the eye of the film literate?
"I'm the sexiest woman right now and I'm just really happy." — Jessy Mendiola on bashers.
You go, girl.
“Happily beating. It's still beating.” — Lovi Poe on her heart after her breakup with Rocco Nacino.
Life goes on.
“The MPD wants him dead or alive. We want him." — Manila Police District Director Senior Supt. Joel Coronel on Army reservist Vhon Martin Tanto.
Some people are only brave when they're armed.
“Ayaw ko ding i-pressure ang sarili ko, hindi ko din ma-pressure ang waistline ko.” — Judy Ann Santos on foregoing a project with Richard Yap to focus on her pregnancy.
Not pressuring our waistline is our new mantra.
"Our Queen will pass her crown in her own homeland." — Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach on the Philippines hosting the next Miss Universe pageant.
Bekis everywhere are rejoicing!
"I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves." — Michelle Obama at the Democractic National Convention.
Will any of us ever learn?
