LTO and LTFRB in hot water as Duterte names most corrupt agencies
Appointees of the previous administration are also under scrutiny.
(SPOT.ph) Over the weekend, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his frustration over alleged corruption in various government agencies all over the country.
During an early morning press conference in Davao City on Sunday, August 21, the president made an announcement which affected thousands of government officials. “On Monday, I would declare all positions in the government... If you are there because of a presidential appointment, I will declare all your positions all throughout the country vacant,” he said. "It will number in thousands. Consider yourself in the crucible of the truth about corruption in this country," he added.
However, Duterte quickly clarified that this order does not include his cabinet officials who were sworn in since his inauguration on June 30. Career officials are also exempted.
The president’s move comes in response to recent information he gathered regarding rampant corruption in the government despite his stern warnings against it. “Until now in my provincial visits, I still hear corruption being committed by people, especially in the regulatory agencies,” he said.
Duterte then named both the Land Transportation Office and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board as the most corrupt agencies. He instructed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) officials to meet him in Malacañang this week.
