(SPOT.ph) A party-list lawmaker has offered a possible solution which seeks to end the issue regarding the burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. On Thursday, August 25, Kabayan party-list Rep. Harry Roque filed a measure to slightly change the name of the Libingan ng mga Bayani, the Inquirer reported.
“By renaming the ‘Libingan ng Mga Bayani’ to ‘Libingan ng Mga Bayani at Mga Dating Pangulo,’ we can defer from judging whether a former president was or was not a ‘hero’,” he said.
Roque told GMA News that doing so will finally put to rest all arguments questioning Marcos’ burial at the Heroes Cemetery on the basis of his eligibility as a hero. “Let the people’s memory be the judge—not the whims of a certain administration,” he said.
President Rodrigo Duterte has given the Marcos family the go-signal to have their patriarch’s remains buried at the said cemetery. On August 23, the Supreme Court issued a 20-day status quo ante order, in response to protests against the former dictator's burial at the Libingan.
