Solon wants "Bawal ang masungit" signs in public hospitals
Maybe a pay increase would help?
(SPOT.ph) We’ve all heard of those public hospital horror stories where patients—usually the marginalized—are turned away by doctors and nurses even during emergency situations. Due to this, Negros Oriential Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. wants “Bawal ang masungit” tarpaulins placed all over public hospitals, GMA News reported.
“Sa private hospital sir ‘yong pasyente. Sa public hospital hindi eh. Ma’am 'yong nurse eh. May sakit na nga ‘yong tao, mahirap pa, sinisigawan pa,” Teves said during the budget hearing of the Department of Health.
Aside from this, Teves also asked Health Sec. Paulyn Rosell-Ubial to set up hotlines where maltreated patients can lodge their complaints.
Meanwhile, the Inquirer noted that Rosell-Ubial said they already have plans to address the issue. “In fact I’m thinking of really sending ghost clients as part of our quality assurance,” she said.
Various complaints have been reported about horrible experiences in public hospitals including the long queues and grumpy staff. In some cases, patients who were rushed due to emergency conditions were allegedly asked to pay a deposit before being given treatment.
