Coming soon: One common station to link MRT and LRT lines
Is this a dream?
(SPOT.ph) The strongly contested common station between the Metro Rail Transit and the Light Rail Transit might soon become a reality after all concerned parties agreed to sign a contract that will finally link the two train systems.
Department of Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade said all stakeholders have expressed support for the project despite previous differences in opinion, GMA News reported. “All of them saw the importance of one, single station. All of them saw the difficulty of making people walk due to lack of connectivity of MRT and LRT,” he said. “All of them agreed that there’s got to be connectivity. Lahat po kahapon nag agree na magkakaroon ng common station,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Inquirer noted Tugade as saying that the common station will also link the ongoing MRT Line 7 system which will eventually connect Bulacan to Quezon City.
The common station is expected to be constructed somewhere in between the SM North EDSA and Trinoma malls. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) along with the stakeholders will be meeting on September 28 to sign the contract.
