Law grads from Visayas top 2016 Bar Exams
Move over, UP.
(SPOT.ph) The much-awaited list of passers of the 2016 Bar Exams was released today, May 3, at the Supreme Court quadrangle by SC Justice Presbitero J. Velasco Jr. To everyone's surprise, the Top 10 included graduates from various universities outside the Metro, with University of San Carlos alumna Karen Mae L. Calam leading the pack with a grade of 89.05%.
Last year's list of topnotchers was dominated by graduates from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, and San Beda College-Manila. For this year, none of these schools got through the elite list now dominated by University of San Carlos in Cebu City (four slots) and Silliman University in Dumaguete (three slots). The other rankings were filled up by Northwestern University in Vigan and University of Batangas—both in Luzon—, Andres Bonifacio College in Dipolog and Ateneo de Davao University—both in Mindanao, and University of San Agustin in Iloilo, Western Visayas. This just goes to show that you don’t always have to go to the Metro for the so-called greener pastures and quality education.
The 2016 Bar passing rate is 59.06%, a record high in 30 years.
