Yay or Nay: There's Now an App That Lets You Rent a Date
Is this for real?
(SPOT.ph) Mobile applications like Tindr have changed the way people date. It matches you with other users within the vicinity and you can just swipe left if you don't like what you're seeing. But this new app, dubbed as Asia's first on-demand companionship service, is a different story. Pangga, from a Visayan term of endearment, is an app that lets singles rent a pretend-boyfriend or -girlfriend for a date. The question is, would you use it?
Clients can hire a pangga specific to their needs. Want to change your Facebook status to "In a Relationship"? There's a Social Media Boyfriend/Girlfriend for that! You can also hire someone to join you in your #RoadToAlindog and accompany you in morning runs, gym sessions, and the like. You can also get someone to take you places like a tour guide. There's also a pangga that specializes in heart-to-heart chats if you just want someone to listen.
But the best reason to hire a companion is probably to have someone to bring home for family reunions and just stop your aunts and uncles from asking you that annoying bakit-wala-ka-pang-boyfriend question. Before you raise your eyebrows, there's a no-touch rule and other security policies. This is not that type of companion service, after all.
For strictly research purposes, we checked if the app's actually on Google Play. But it turns out that the beta version is only available for download by request through the Pangga website. Do let us know if it works!
