Let Your Pride Flag Fly at This Year's Metro Manila Pride March
It will be held on June 30.
(SPOT.ph) If you're confused with the sudden proliferation of rainbow emojis and motifs on your social media feeds, it's because Pride Month has arrived! Every June, members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community around the globe gather together and commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Manhattan (a landmark event for gay rights and the mainstream visibility of queer people) in the loudest and most colorful way possible. And the Philippines is no exception to the festivities—the advocacy group Metro Manila Pride will be holding its annual Pride March and Festival on June 30, Saturday at the Marikina Sports Center.
Currently on its 24th year, this year's Metro Manila Pride March will be following the theme #RiseUpTogether. If last year's #HereTogether was about spreading the love and support in the community, this year's campaign is marked by a heightened awareness of the inequality that LGBTQIA+ people have to face every day. In response, Metro Manila Pride calls for the community to come together and learn from each other in order to become better advocates and create meaningful, long-term change.
The 2018 Metro Manila Pride March and Festival starts at 12 p.m. with an afternoon program, and the march proper begins at 4 p.m. The event will end with another program from 6 p.m. onwards. See you there!
