The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill Is Happening This Thursday
Remember to duck, cover, and hold!
(SPOT.ph) Time has proven that one can never be too prepared for worst case scenarios. And when it comes to earthquakes, the government has got us getting ready—the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Office of Civil Defense announced that the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill for Quarter 2 of 2018 will be happening this coming June 21 at 2 p.m. This will be the second nationwide earthquake drill for the year—the first was held on February 15.
At 2 p.m. this coming Thursday, individuals and groups are obliged to do the duck, cover, hold technique and evacuate to a safe, open area. This earthquake drill is a timely exercise in preparation, especially given how the Department of Science and Technology predicted a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in the next few years due to the movements of the West Valley Fault.
Additionally, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is encouraging individuals to share photos and videos of their earthquake drill experience with the hashtag #BidaAngHanda. This social media campaign aims to spread awareness and educate the public on the proper procedures to follow should an earthquake occur.
