El Nido Bans Bringing Plastics on Boat Tours

The ban will take effect starting September 1.

(SPOT.ph) In an effort to conserve the beauty of El Nido's natural resources and maintain its position as a prime tourism destination, its local government released a notice that will prohibit bringing all kinds of plastics on boat tours starting September 1.

This is to help prevent plastic waste from being discarded in Palawan's waters. Tourists, boat captains, and crews are advised to bring reusable containers like tumblers instead.

In an official statement dated August 17, El Nido Mayor Nieves Rosento reminded the public of Municipal Ordinance No. 004 Series of 2013, which seeks to regulate and limit the use of single-use plastic bags, cellophane, and styrofoam. He also called for the public's observance of the ordinance, saying that "everyone's help is significant to win over this worldwide problem."

This statement comes after a Facebook post that went viral on August 16, which showed large amounts of trash floating in El Nido's Secret Lagoon.
