Photographer Shaira Luna Comes Out With A Visually Stunning Book
It will be launched during the Manila International Book Fair.
(SPOT.ph) Shaira Luna first became a household name when Promil's "gifted child" TV ads rolled out in 1995. She was then a little girl who spewed out anatomy-related facts as if she was a walking encyclopedia—a far cry to what she has become 23 years later. Now having made a name for herself in photography, Luna now comes out with a visual short story collection titled Playing Long After Us.
Published by Summit Books, the book features five love stories across five different decades—from the '50s to the '90s—told through Luna's signature nostalgia-tinted photos that captures not only the subject but also the memory that comes with it. Each spread is complemented with prose by FHM Philippines editor-in-chief Anton D. Umali and In Case You Come Back author Marla Miniano.
National Book Award-winning author Sarge Lacuesta couldn't have said it better in his introduction: "This is why the eye of Shaira Luna exists, an eye that seeks to create the unattainable image that is accountable to no-one and to nothing—to remind us that such moments can be created and should exist, and that we must sometimes disappear into them."
Looking at Luna's photographs all laid out in a book is like getting lost in a world that’s bigger and yet more fleeting than our own.
Playing Long After Us (Summit Books, 2018) will be launched during the Manila International Book Fair on September 15, 7 p.m. at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. It will be available in major bookstores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and newsstands nationwide for P395.
