(SPOT.ph) Although Typhoon Ompong may not have hit Metro Manila as hard as expected, the storm still ravaged through several parts of the country such as Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Abra, and other parts of Northern Luzon. If you're wondering how you can help out our affected countrymen, check out these organizations and institutions where you can donate or volunteer for the benefit of Typhoon Ompong victims.
Department of Social Welfare and Development
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is looking for volunteers to repack relief goods at the DSWD National Resource Operation Center in Pasay City, from Monday to Sunday, 24/7 until October 13. Volunteers must render at least four hours of service. Interested parties may contact the National Resource and Logistics Management Service at 553-9864 or 852-8081.
Gawad Kalinga needs help in raising funds as they prepare 5,000 meals per day for the Typhoon Ompong victims. For as low as P15 per meal, you may donate via bank deposit at the BPI EDSA Greenhills branch, through the Gawad Kalinga peso current account 3101 0977 56.
Youth party-list Kabataan is calling for donations of relief goods such as canned goods, rice and noodles, bottled water, coffee, medicine, clothes, and blankets. Drop-off centers are located at Quezon City and Manila. Volunteers are also needed to repack the relief goods. Interested parties may contact 0916-226-6436 for more information. You may also donate funds through PayPal.
Philippine Red Cross
Save the Children
Independent children's organization Save the Children is calling for monetary donations as they deploy emergency response teams to the affected areas and dispatch relief goods and emergency kits. Interested parties may donate online.
Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan
Catholic organization Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan is accepting donations both monetary and in kind. Check and cash donations may be deposited to the Metrobank Tañong branch in Marikina with the account name "Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc.," under checking account number: 448-7-448013142. Alternatively, in-kind donations may be deposited at the Richie Fernando Covered Courts at the Ateneo de Manila University starting September 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may donate goods such as canned goods, rice, instant noodles, hygiene kits, clothes, blankets, mats, bottled water, and other necessities.
Charity organization World Vision Philippines is calling for monetary donations and pledges as they are dispatching hygiene kits and relief goods to evacuation centers in Cagayan. You may donate online.
