(SPOT.ph) A public hearing was held on the afternoon of October 30 to discuss a proposed increase in terminal fees at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Given that there were no objections to the proposal during the hearing, it was greenlighted and is set to take effect on April 1, 2019.
If the suggested increase amounts are approved, we can expect the terminal fee for international flights to climb from P550 to P750 and that for domestic flights to rise from P200 to P300. According to Ed Monreal, general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority, the increase will help cover any costs associated with improving airport facilities and will also keep Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) financially afloat.
More details are expected to be released by MIAA soon. As far as we know, there will be no difference in the way the collection will be carried out: The fee will be tacked on to the price of airline tickets, so no one will actually have to fork over the cash at the airport. We wonder, though, if the hearing was announced, if it was well-attended by members of the actual public, and if so, how come nobody objected to the idea.
