PSA: LRT 1's Last Trains to Leave Earlier Starting Today

(SPOT.ph) Public transportation in Metro Manila often gets a bad rap, and when you've only got three main train lines in a metropolis that has a population of about 13 million, it's easy to see why. Heads up, though, as it looks like we may have to sacrifice a bit more—for a good thing. The Light Rail Transit 1's last trains of the day, originally scheduled to leave at 10 p.m. both ways, will be leaving a little earlier starting July 29. The last train from Baclaran Station will leave at 9:30 p.m. while the last train from Roosevelt Station will leave at 9:45 p.m. This is to make way for rehabilitation and upgrading of the system said train operator Light Rail Manila Corporation.

"The system upgrade and rehabilitation work will include the replacement of the auxiliary power supply and train control and monitoring system among many others,” said operations director Bobby San Jose of Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), in a report by GMA News. The first trains still leave at 4:30 a.m. from Baclaran and Roosevelt.

In 2018, it was reported that LRMC would be spending P650 million to rehabilitate the power facilities of the Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT 1), some of which have equipment up to 30 years old. We can expect a more reliable and efficient LRT 1 by October 2020, promised LMRC.
