(SPOT.ph) A long weekend usually means one thing for the people of Metro Manila: a road trip to the country's summer capital, Baguio City—never mind that it's not summer, any spare time is a great excuse to get away from the Metro for a bit. While there are a lot of cool public transportation options to get up north, those taking their private vehicles for a road trip this Undas should note that, yup, Kennon Road is still closed to traffic.
According to a post by the Department of Public Works and Highways, motorists are advised to use the Marcos Highway or Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-Rizal-Anduyan Road instead. Only residents may use Kennon Road for now. The department also "requests the public to check their sources first before sharing the information to avoid inconvenience."
As of August 2019, there is no clear date for the reopening of the highway. While "window hours" have been opened for residents, Kennon Road is still too unstable to be opened to the usual flow of vehicles. The highway was opened periodically to traffic during the first half of 2019, but it looks like this isn't the case for Undas. Plan your trips accordingly!
