Watch for These Christmas-Themed Trains on Your Next LRT-1 Ride
Plus, learn how to say "Merry Christmas" in other local languages.
(SPOT.ph) With malls, hotels, and public parks all dressed up for Christmas, it's inevitable that the mode of public transport that makes those places more accessible would also be decked out for the holidays. The LRT-1, on November 27, unveiled three light-rail vehicles adorned with Christmas decals. If you're lucky, you might just chance upon one on your daily commute.
Aside from the usual motif of red and green, the LRT-1 windows also show the different ways you can say "Merry Christmas" in various Philippine languages: "Maligayang Pasko" in Tagalog, "Felices Pascuas" in Chabacano, and "Maayong Pasko" in Sebwano. Of course, who better to launch the Christmas-themed coaches than Jose Mari Chan? The singer performed "Christmas in Our Hearts" to launch the LRT-1's festive look. Who's betting it'll result in more fun memes?
The "Christmas train is symbolic in many ways. It’s symbolic that Christmas is already here and the spirit of joy and cheer, and a time for people to reunite with their friends and family is near. We thank our customers who ride the LRT-1 on a daily basis. We hope the decorations of our train delight you. It’s our simple way of giving good riding experience and comfortable movement for the people," Light Rail Manila Corporation vice chair Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said in a statement. This is the fourth time that selected LRT-1 trains have been decorated with a Christmas theme.
The holiday-themed trains run until February 2020. The LRT-1 travels from Baclaran station in Pasay City to Roosevelt Station in Quezon City.
