Heads Up, Mandaluyong Commuters: There's a New Air-Conditioned PUV You Can Use to Get Around
Have you seen them around?
(SPOT.ph) Just how bad is Metro Manila traffic, you ask? Well, the commute to and from the office is usually even more draining than the actual work itself, so that's just one sign. But folks in Mandaluyong City now have something new to look forward to on their daily commute: air-conditioned PUVs! Launched in November 2019, these new PUVs ply the usual jeepney routes with the fare set at P11, so keep your eyes peeled for them the next time you're waiting in the city heat.
The modern jeepneys were launched with the Mandaluyong Transport Service Cooperative and FILIPAY. Currently, there are four routes offered:
- Boni Pinatubo to Stop and Shop
- JRC to Kalentong
- Boni Pinatubo to Panaderos
- Boni Robinsons Complex Pioneer via Boni Avenue to Kalentong to JRC
Aside from paying in cash, you can also use the FILIPAY card—which works a lot like the beep card and can be bought at PUV terminals for P60 each, inclusive of P30 load. Otherwise, you can pay your fare in the modern jeepney itself.
These new jeepneys are part of the modernization program of the/ Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. A lot has been said about the controversial project, so why not head on out and try the modern jeepneys yourself?
