Take a Look at Siargao Island's Very Own Sports Complex
It's home to a state-of-the-art gym!
(SPOT.ph) Siargao isn't all just pristine white beaches and blue seas with intense waves perfect for surfing—not that anybody's complaining about that. It looks like something new has popped up on the island, though! The Siargao Island sports complex (a.k.a. the Siargao Island Sports and Tourism Center) in Barangay Osmeña, Dapa, Siargao Island, has been declared officially complete by local authorities and ready to host the CARAGA regional sports meet from March 14 to 19.
The P200-million complex houses a convention center, a track and field stadium, a gym, swimming pool, dormitories, and more.
Construction for the 6-hectare sports complex started in 2015, according to the Caraga Athletic Association. Looks like the wait was well worth it as the gym alone has two rubberized courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, and seating for around 3,000 people—plus it's fully air-conditioned. The "state-of-the-art gym" costs around P150 million, said the Department of Public Works and Highways in a statement.
There also two dormitory buildings that athletes can lodge in during games. "These dormitories are also designed to serve as two-storey six classroom multi-purpose buildings," said Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Pol M. Delos Santos in a report by the Manila Bulletin.
The island is a popular go-to destination for all kinds of travelers, and the sports complex "will now be an addition to tourist attractions in Siargao along with the annual international surfing competition and international game fishing," said Delos Santos in the DPWH statement.
