10 Things We Wish Pasig City Could Give the Entire Country

Check out the many ways this city is stepping up amid the quarantine.

(SPOT.ph) The entire nation is gearing up against the spread of COVID-19. All of Luzon is now under an enhanced community quarantine as regions nationwide also close their boundaries. Life has changed a lot in the past few weeks. Local governments are doing what they can to help people adjust and make it through these strange times—but one Metro Manila city in particular seems to be shining extra-bright. 

Pasig City has amped up its response to COVID-19 and people on Twitter sure have taken notice. Both "Pasig" and "Vico Sotto" are on the top trends in the local Twitter network, as of writing. Vico Sotto, Pasig City mayor, is on everyone's feed as the city administration does what it can to provide alternate ways of transport, sanitation, food, and other basic necessities for its people. 

It's a trying time for millions of people in the Philippines as the next few months feel uncertain, so if you need a bit of a pick-me-up, we round up 10 good things happening in Pasig City.

There are disinfecting tents around the city.

Tents where you can disinfect yourself have been placed in key areas in the city; a needed precaution to keep the virus at bay. Private entities have also lent their facilities for quarantine use


Around 1,000 pieces of disinfecting equipment were distributed.

The entire city was up in arms to disinfect every possible area, too. Around 1,000 disinfecting equipment and necessary items were distributed to make sure each department was well-armed to fight the virus.

Tricycles are allowed to operate to cater to people without private cars.


After mass transport was suspended by the enhanced community quarantine, people without private vehicles were left at a loss about how to get basic necessities. The Pasig City government then allowed trycicles to operate.

There's a bus service that can help frontliners get to their destinations easier.

A bus service was also put in place to help those exempted from the travel ban. "Palalakarin ba talaga natin ng limang kilometro ang isang dialysis patient na senior citizen? Ang cancer patient na bagong opera?" pointed out the mayor, explaining the need for the service on his Facebook page.


Bicycles are available for health workers to use for free.

And to help out the health workers a bit more, the Pasig Bike Share project was repurposed to aid frontliners get where they're most needed. You can even help out and donate old bikes if you have any!

There are mobile kitchens that provide food for frontliners.


Mobile kitchens were also put in place to help feed the city's respondents at the frontline. We're sure this is one less thing for them to think about!

An ordinance was implemented to prevent people from hoarding much-needed necessities.

An anti-hoarding ordinance was also put in place after people started panic-buying as rumors of a lockdown circulated. Valenzuela City implemented their own version a few days earlier.


Vitamins will be distributed to Pasig City residents.

Around 5,000 bottles of vitamins were also ordered by the city government. While not all residents may receive some, Sotto noted that this is just the first batch of delivery.

Grocery bags with long-lasting food items will also be handed out.


To go with the medicines, 400,000 food packs were also bought. The grocery bags contain enough goods to significantly help any family caught unaware by the quarantine.

City employees have been assured continued salary.

Government workers were also assured a full salary—even contractual ones working on a "no work, no pay" system. City administration also outlined which private businesses should adapt a work-from-home model.
