UPDATED: Voter Registration for 2022 Elections Is Suspended Until June 30

(SPOT.ph) The May 9, 2022 election is (hopefully) a big game-changer in the Republic of the Philippines. Voters are set to select not only the president and vice president, but also members of the legislative branch of the government—from 12 senatorial seats to positions in the Lower House. Slots for officials of local government units, from mayors to councilors, will also be on the ballot. Voter registration for the upcoming election resumed on January 20, but have been temporarily suspended until June 30 following the imposition and extension of the enhanced community quarantine, according to the Commission on Elections. Satellite registration offices reopen on July 1, Monday. Applications are from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The resumption of voter's registration was originally scheduled for May 1, but the extension of quarantine in Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines pushed the continued suspension of this activity. "The conduct of voter registration is not yet advisable since there will be restrictions on the movement of people and on certain activitues," Commission on Elections executive director Bartolome J. Sinocruz, Jr said in a statement.

Any Filipino citizen who has not yet registered for previous elections may apply as long as he/she is 18 years of age on or before May 9, 2022, a resident of the Philippines for at least one year, and living in the place where he/she will be registering to vote for at least six months following the national and local elections.

If you can't go to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office at Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila, you are encouraged to proceed to any satellite registration office near you. This includes barangay halls, designated public schools, and even covered courts and terminals. Just visit COMELEC's website or Facebook page for a complete list of satellite registration offices and their schedule.
