It's Official: The ECQ Is Extended Until May 15 in Metro Manila
Along with different levels of quarantine restrictions across the nation.
(SPOT.ph) The enhanced community quarantine has been extended over Metro Manila, Region 3, Region 4A, and other areas nationwide considered high-risk until May 15, announced presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on April 24. These restrictions will once again be reviewed to determine if the restrictions can be lifted on May 16.
Other areas where the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will be extended include:
- Nueva Ecija
- Oriental Mindoro
- Occidental Mindoro
- Cebu City
- Davao del Norte
- Davao City
A "general community quarantine will" be enforced in places not included under the extenstion of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). Roque notes that some areas have also been marked as "moderate," meaning that the restrictions are still under review.
A minimum health standard will also be set by the government for the "new normal," or how Pinoys will live even after the pandemic has abated. This will be set by the Department of Health, along with the Department of Transportation, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The President met with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and other government officials on April 23 to decide on what to do regarding quarantine restrictions over Luzon. The enhanced community quarantine was first extended from April 13 to April 30 after Duterte approved a recommendation by the IATF on April 7.
A total of 271 new cases were reported by the Department of Health today, April 23, bringing the total COVID-19 cases in the Philippines to 6,981. Of that number, 722 have recovered while 462 have died.
