90 More Buses Will Service the EDSA Busway Starting Tomorrow

The MRT-3 bus augmentation program is merging with the EDSA busway system.

(SPOT.ph) Commuting along EDSA has never been easy. And with quarantine restrictions in place, the difficulty levels have been amped up even more. If you've gotten used to the new system of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3—and used the bus augmentation service in place—then take note: The Metro Rail Transit Line-3 (MRT-3) Bus Augmentation Program will be absorbed by the EDSA busway system starting July 29. This means that a total of 284 buses will be plying the EDSA Busway service starting tomorrow.

Ninety buses were originally set aside specifically for use by MRT-3 passengers under the augmentation program. With social distancing guidelines in place, the train line is currently carrying just around 150 passengers per trip—just a tenth of the maximum capacity. These 90 buses will be added to the 194 buses that are now servicing the EDSA busway, a newsystem where buses are on the innermost lanes of the thoroughfare.

Instead of the fixed fare of P25, rides will have a base far of P15 for the first five kilometers with an additional P2.2 for each succeeding kilometers, according to the Department of Transportation
