(SPOT.ph) If you're making plans to visit your dearly departed this coming Undas, take note of this first: Cemeteries and memorial parks will be closed starting from October 29 to November 4. This is part of the government's move to curb the spread of COVID-19.
According to Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases' Resolution No. 72 released on September 17, this covers "all private and public cemeteries, and memorial parks, including columbariums and the like."
In a Philippine Information Agency report, Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) Co-Chairperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that while they recognize that the observation of Undas is "ingrained in our culture," safety must come first. "The government could not take the risk of having so many people at the same place and at the same time," added Nograles.
Beyond the closure dates, the said resolution also states that from September 17 to November 15, the number of visitors in cemeteries and memorial parks shall be limited to a maximum of 30% of the venue capacity. Visitors must also wear face masks and shields, and observe social distancing. There is no age restriction for visitors.
