The Korean Invasion: 5 Korean salons to try

From expert haircuts to effective hair treatments, Cosmo Beauty Editor Nicole Delos Angeles tells us which Korean salons in Manila deserve a visit.

Korean salons are popping up all over, and we're not complaining. We're totally loving the oh-so-gorgeous 'dos we get as a result from the new techniques and cool gadgets they're bringing to the local hair arena. Check out our top picks:

Park Jun's Beauty Lab
Address: G/F Glorietta 3, Makati City
Contact: 819-3001
Operating Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily

Go for: Davines Alchemic Intensive Treatment, starts at P1,800

Why We Liked It: Hair treatments here a real treat and worth your money. If you have super dry, colored hair that's dull and tangled, try the Alchemic Intensive Treatment. It'll give your hair an intensive shine, boost your color, and add softness. What makes their hair treatments different is the special machine called the Hand Micro Mist Steamer they use, which helps the treatment penetrate your hair deeply so the effects last longer.

What Else To Try: Haircuts from style director Jinny Kim, P800. She shapes wavy, mid-length hair well, so that it looks sexy and full of body. Growing out your strands? Try their Volume Rebonding, starts at P5,100. Here, they iron out the roots and flick the ends either inwards or outwards to add more oomph to your hair and make it look like it has loose, blown out waves.

Beauty Brick Hair Art Studio
Address: Unit 103 Doña Consolacion Bldg., 122 Jupiter St., Bel-Air, Makati City
Contact: 473-5108; 0917-5200044
Operating Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily

Go for: Haircuts by salon manager Shin, P600

Why We Liked It: Shin can shape your strands and give you a cut that suits your face shape and personality. If you want something a bit more edgy and Korean pop-ish, he'll willingly oblige and pull it off with pizzazz. But, if you want something more conservative and easy-to-maintain, he can also take your locks to the next level of gorgeous–as if you had a mini makeover.

What Else To Try: Gals who want straight hair can try their version of rebonding called the Magic Perm, which starts at P3,000. But, be willing to listen to Shin's urging if he says a perm will suit your hair and look better on you. For those with dry, damaged hair, try the Clinic Perm, P1,900 for medium-length strands, which starts with a treatment followed by a traditional perm.

Address: B3 7th Ave. cor. Lane P, High Street, Bonifacio Global City
Contact: 818-1968, 0928-3520700
Operating Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily

Go for: Volumized Rebonding starts at P7,000

Why We Liked It: Creative Director Mr. YS clearly knows the science behind hair cutting and styling. He knows what cut will suit the shape of your face and head, and he'll explain everything to you so you're involved in the creative process as well. If you want straight, frizz-free hair that looks natural and soft, go for Volumized Rebonding. They keep the volume near the crown area and flip the ends of your strands inwards, so it falls naturally and doesn't look stick-straight.

What Else To Try: If you want a little extra pampering, try a foot spa, P500, which comes with a very thorough sloughing and relaxing foot rub. We also like how they expertly groom eyebrows via threading, P250.

Shine Girls Hair Salon
Address: 3/F Don Rafael Building, Guerrero St cor. Makati Ave., Makati City
Contact: 467-4302
Operating Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Tuesday to Sunday)

Go for: Digital Perm, which starts at P3,000

Why We Liked It: The digi-perm starts off with a treatment to help make sure that your strands don't get too damaged. You'll really feel taken care of because salon owner and stylist, Gina, takes the time to analyze your hair and make sure that all your curls are picture-perfect. Afterwards, she personally dries your hair and teaches you how to style your hair (remember: scrunch and twirl). Bonus: Regular clients are given a special conditioner from Korea for free to use at home to help you maintain your coils after each perm.

What Else To Try: If you have curly or permed hair, ask Gina for a trim, P400, when your strands become unruly.

Tony & Jackey
Address: G/F Centro Plaza Building, Tomas Morato corner Timog Ave., Quezon City
Contact: 407-6928
Operating Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily

Go for: Korean Digital Perm, P3,000

Why We Liked It: This treatment will definitely add some sex appeal to your strands. Once they apply the solution and rollers, they hook you up to an octopus-like machine to start the perming process. The results: soft, flirty waves that usually last longer than the traditional perm. Tip: If you're concerned about dryness or damage, tell your stylist so he or she can also adjust the heat settings on the machine.

What Else To Try: If you want to try a new, Korean-inspired style, get a cut from Shine, P300 to P500. They have style books that contain photos of various hairstyles worn by Korean celebs and models. Just point to the one you like and your stylist will work from there to give you the look you want.
