SPOT.ph’s How To: Find your perfect fit

Ladies, are you wearing it right?

(SPOT.ph) It's a problem we're not really aware of. And hey it’s part of our everyday routine - right after waking up and before putting on that dress you bought at last month’s sale. If you're still not sure what this is about, don't worry, 70% of women have this. Honestly, we're a bit hesitant to say it, but okay, we'll blurt it out: most of us are wearing the wrong bra (or brassiere, if you wanna be fancy). We can’t believe it either! But lucky for us, we sat down with Julia Mercer, Marks & Spencer's Global Technical Manager for Lingerie who shared with us the misconceptions in choosing a bra and how to get that perfect fit.

On Misconceptions: "They [women] usually think that they can wear any shape they want, but there are specific shapes for different women. Also, most rely on the straps for support but this shouldn't be the case. Lastly, for more comfort, they usually wear the underband loose."

On how to choose the right fit: Always remember the five key steps to a perfect bra fit. "The underband should fit snugly around the rib cage, with space for only two fingers to get under it. Second, the front position should lie at the center. Next, the side wing shouldn't create a bulge. Third, the cup should fully encase the breasts without double busting at the front. And last, the straps shouldn't dig into the shoulders and must be adjusted individually."

On types and styles of bras: The balcony bra is perfect for the low or dropped bust while the plunge bra gives great cleavage. The push-up bra is more ideal for smaller busts and the t-shirt bra is perfect for everyday wear.
