Abs and Style Icons: 8 Highlights from Philippine Fashion Week
Eight things that got us excited during fashion week
(SPOT.ph) After a week of rubbing elbows with Manila’s most fashionable and seeing the glamorous results of hours of hard work by some of the best Filipino designers, we round up the eight things we loved about this season’s Philippine Fashion Week.
1. Paolo Roldan
With a resume that includes modeling gigs for international brands like Givenchy and Vogue Paris (remember this?), the sizzling, Fil-Am model du jour Paolo Roldan stepped out in no less (and little more) than a pair of Bench briefs showcasing the, er, appeal that's made him the new male model to watch. See more of him in this SPOT.ph story on international Pinoy male models.
2. Nina Garcia at the Jag for Jag Origins Fashion Show
The effervescent style icon and fashion journalist came to Manila for Jag Origins. With her wit and knowledge on all things fashion, the creative director of Marie Claire served as the inaugural speaker at a seminar hosted by the denim brand, giving great tips for helping Filipinas with their everyday fashion woes. The seminar culminated in the launch of the brand's Holiday 2013 collection.
3. Penshoppe on point with the latest trends in ready-to-wear
Penshoppe continues to impress with their on-target fashion direction, evident at their show on May 25 at SMX. The fashionable and wearable pieces are instant must-haves thanks in part to their newest brand director, Jeff Bascon.
4. Who’s sitting in the front row?
Twice a year, famous folks from show business to multi-international corporations flock together to attend Philippine Fashion Week. One fresh face spotted among the crowd was Kathryn Bernardo, who donned the white-on-white trend with her crisp sleeveless lapel blazer and jeans for a youthful look appropriate for the occasion. 5. Bench Body Fashion Show
We never get tired of seeing underwear-clad models such as Borgy Manotoc, Paolo Roldan, and Jennylyn Mercado working the catwalk like they're not half-naked. For this season, Bench decided to move away from the typical structured couture and goes for a sporty and fun look, a trend that shows versatility and wearability. Photo by Yayay de Castro
6. Ruffa Gutierrez still knows how to work the catwalk
Former beauty queen and model Ruffa Gutierrez showed everyone she can still work it on the runway, appearing in a show for SM Ladies.
7. Michael Cinco’s "The Impalpable Dream of Russia" Collection
The fashion prodigy pushed boundaries in his collection, showing a blend of Russian and Arab culture with a defined silhouette. The refined and intricate 33-piece collection with its luxurious beadwork shows the kind of unhinged creativity that screams Michael Cinco.
8. Albert Andrada closing PHFW Holiday 2013
It was only apt that Albert Andrada's collection, which showcased grandeur and opulence with its structured and glamorous clothing, closed the 22nd season of PHFW Holiday 2013.
