One Night with David Gandy
An insider’s look into an exclusive party for the newest model for SM Men’s Fashion
(SPOT.ph) SM Men's Fashion recently added David Gandy, an internationally renowned male model, to its growing roster of brand endorsers. Gandy visited Manila recently to headline SM's biggest campaign to date, launched during Philippine Fashion Week, held from October 23 to 29. Before walking the runway, Gandy was feted in an exclusive party. We scored an invite and thought we’d send someone to give us the lowdown on what happened.
Want an insider’s look into the private cocktail event? Read on!
7:20 p.m.: Arrived at Function Room 1 of SMX Convention Center for a meet and greet with David Gandy (DG for short), SM’s newest brand ambassador. First, they got SJP and now, DG. Tres chic SM!
Remember the hunk from the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue campaign? That's him!
7:30 p.m.: Quite a lot of people have turned up to meet DG. Haven't seen him yet, but saw Daniel Matsunaga.
7:35 p.m.: The decorations are elegant. Fresh flowers and white bare trees strewn with blue twinkle lights. Blue and white is the color scheme. Is it because DG's eyes are piercing blue, which you can't help but notice when you see his billboard along EDSA?
7:40 p.m.: Also saw Fabio Ide talking to Daniel Matsunaga. Daniel + Fabio = Prettiness overload.
7:45 p.m.: Christine and Julius Babao, Daniel, and Fabio have a photo op. The celebs are joining forces.
7:50 p.m.: Tessa Prieto-Valdes arrives wearing a printed blue maxi dress, embellished purple fur collar, and green fascinator.
7:55 p.m.: SM went all out for the buffet spread. I sample skewers of chicken satay and snapper wrapped in bacon; conchiglie with pork saucission, truffle oil, porcini cream and parmesan; fusilli with Norwegian salmon, olives, basil pesto and pine nuts aglio olio; 10 hour US roast beef; handmade chocolate truffles; French macarons; and fresh fruit pavlova. I'll whip out my food dictionary later.
7:58 p.m.: Michael Cinco just swept into the party wearing all black-the color of the evening. Are we all supposed to wear black? I didn't get the memo. Neither did Tessa Prieto-Valdes.
8:00 p.m.: We could use another cute Brazilian-Japanese guy. Enter Hideo Muraoka.
8:07 p.m.: The attire runs the gamut of black, from LBDs to biker chic.
8:10 p.m.: I hear that DG is coming out in a while. Totes excited!
8:10 p.m.: Noticed that Michael Cinco is wearing platform boots. Fab!
8:15 p.m.: A behind-the-scenes video of DG's photo shoot for SM Men plays. He's gorgeous!
8:15 p.m.: He's here! Speaking in a dreamy British accent, he says Filipinos are very hospitable: "In London, you smile at people and they look at you like you're a weirdo. Here, they smile back and have a chat with you." He adds, "I'll come say hi to you in one second." Swoon! Everyone whips out their cell phones to take photos.
The too-cool-for-school crowd instantly falls in love with DG, literally following him around the room and taking pictures. With his smoldering looks, who wouldn't?
This is the best photo of the night, in my opinion.

8:25 p.m.: He disappears. Crowd goes back to normal and regains their composure. The women are fanning themselves.
8:40 p.m.: Tessa Prieto-Valdes is leaving the party fashionably early. So will I!
