P-Noy declares November 16 a national non-working holiday
President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III declared November 16 a national non-working holiday in observance of the Islam feast Eid’l Adha, GMANews.TV reports. The holiday was declared through Proclamation No. 60 on Wednesday.
"The proclamation was based on Republic Act 9849, which provides that Eid'l Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday, though at a movable date," the report said. The Muslim feast, which normally falls on the tenth day in the month of Hajj or the Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca, honors "Abraham’s supreme act of sacrifice and signifies mankind’s obedience to God." Proclamation No. 60 describes the holiday as "one of the two greatest feasts in Islam."
