Eugene Domingo is Best Actress, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank and Bisperas win big at Cinemalaya
(SPOT.ph) Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, directed by Marlon Rivera and starring comedienne Eugene Domingo, and Jeffrey Jeturian’s Bisperas were big winners at the Cinemalaya 2011 Awards Night held yesterday, July 24, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, reports the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
"Kailangan ko pang kumain ng tae para lang manalo nito (I needed to eat manure just to win this)," Domingo joked, after receiving her Best Actress award for the New Breed Full-Length category. Domingo had to wade through a real septic tank to shoot the film. Ang Babae sa Septic Tank dominated the New Breed Full-Length category, also winning Best Director for Rivera, Best Screenplay for Chris Martinez, Best Film, and Audience Choice. Best Actor for the New Breed Full-Length category, however, went to Edgar Allan Guzman for Ligo na U, Lapit na Me.
In the Director’s Showcase Category, Aureus Solito won Best Director for Busong, while Jeturian’s Bisperas won Best Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design. Bisperas’ Julia Clarete and Raquel Villavicencio also won Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively. Bembol Roco took home Director’s Showcase Best Actor for Isda.
Snagging three wins each are Patikul, directed by veteran filmmaker Joel Lamangan (Audience Choice award for Director’s Showcase, Best Film for Children, and a Best Supporting Actor nod for Jaime Pebangco) and Walang Katupasang Kwarta by Emerson Reyes (Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Audience Choice Award for the New Breed Short Film category). Meanwhile, Rommel Tolentino won Best Director for the New Breed Short Film Category for his film Niño Bonito.
