Miguel Zubiri to Arroyos: Answer poll fraud allegations
(SPOT.ph) Recently resigned senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is appealing to the Arroyos (former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo) to speak up about the alleged fraud made during the 2007 elections, reports GMA News. In an interview with 24 Oras yesterday, August 4, Zubiri maintained that he was unaware of any plans to cheat.
"May mga alegasyon na lumalabas (at) dapata sagutin nila 'yan. Kaya naman nilang sagutin iyan, mayroon naman silang abogado (There are allegations that they have to address. They're equipped with a lawyer so they have the capacity to answer)," said the ex-senator who quit his post on Wednesday out of "delicadeza." Zubiri ran in 2007 under the administration's as part of Team Unity. "In fairness to the former President, wala po siyang sinabi sa amin na ganon (She didn't tell us anything)," he added.
In an ABS-CBN report, Zubiri believes that the testimonies of Maguindanao poll supervisor Lintang Bedol and ARMM governor Zaldy Ampatuan about the alleged fraud are convincing, but reiterates that he had nothing to do with it. "Kung may nandaya naman po para sa akin ay ginawa ko na po ang ultimate sacrifice, nagbitiw po ako sa pwesto dahil hindi po kami papayag na makinabang sa pandaraya na ginawa sa election (If someone did cheat for me, I already made the ultimate sacrifice, which is to resign, because I will not allow myself to benefit from fraud)," he said.
Zubiri expressed his intention to run again in the 2013 elections. Currently, he plans to spend more time with his family.
