Gloria Macapagal Arroyo now on immigration watch list
(SPOT.ph) Former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was placed on the Bureau of Immigration’s watch list yesterday, August 9, reports GMA News. The reason, according to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, stems from Arroyo’s alleged involvement in several anomalous cases like the sale of the Iloilo airport property in 2007 and the controversy involving the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office intelligence fund, among others.
Interaksyon reports that the watch list order is effective for 60 days or until the DOJ lifts it. The former President will need to file a formal request if she wants to go abroad. According to GMA News, De Lima put off putting Arroyo on the list a few times. During her first attempt, Arroyo was abroad; in her second attempt, the former President has just undergone surgery, causing De Lima to defer the order for "humanitarian reasons."
Arroyo, however, is set to have another surgery today to adjust the titanium implants on her spine, which was dislodged for "unknown reasons." Her husband, Mike Arroyo, was added to the watch list four days before (August 5) for his alleged involvement in the PNP chopper controversy.
