Talk ’N Text (TNT) center Ali Peek, 36, was shot by an unidentified gunman at the parking lot of RFM Gym on Pioneer Street in Mandaluyong City on the evening of November 7. Initially, reports speculated that Peek may have been a victim of a botched robbery.
But they’re now pursuing another angle.
Interaksyon.com quoted Mandaluyong Police Chief Superintendent Armando Bolalin, who said that "according to initial investigation, the man who shot Peek may have been a gun-for-hire who has not had much professional experience."
Bolalin said they are now looking at a possible revenge angle. "Kailangan malaman natin mismo sa kanya, sa victim, kung meron ba siyang previous na nakagalit (We have to ask the victim if he had a previous encounter with anyone that led to some bad blood)," he said.
Eyewitnesses described the suspect as chinito, standing 5’5" to 5’6" of medium build, about 32 to 36 years old. Authorities have released a composite sketch of the gunman. The report said the gunman may have had a companion who served as a lookout during the shooting.
Mandaluyong police has set up a hotline for tips about the shooting, which can be reached at (02)5322145 or (02)5322797. Talk 'N Text team owner Manuel V. Pangilinan has put up a P500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
According to TNT insiders, Peek is currently in stable condition, even if the bullet remains lodged in his neck. TNT assistant coach Jos Reyes revealed: "The CT scan shows the bullet was millimeters away from [Peek’s] spine, mandible, and other vital parts."
