GMA News Online, citing presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, reports that "substantial improvement" has been made at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). In a press briefing on Thursday, November 10, Lacierda told reporters: "We are certainly going to perform a lot of improvements and renovations in the said airport-hopefully, to take it away from the most hated to the most loved."

According to the report, Lacierda was asked how much it would cost the government to do that. He replied,  "Quite substantially." He explained that Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Sec. Manuel Roxas II would be in a better position to mention the cost of structural improvements and renovations on NAIA 1 and 2.

Lacierda also disclosed, "There has been substantial improvement also on the restrooms in NAIA 1. There are (rolls of) toilet paper, water running, and better lighting conditions. This was what the president [also] noticed - parang 'yung restrooms natin parang hospital restrooms. Ngayon, it looks a lot better. We have also improved lounges and there will be some improvement also as to the Internet availability."

Yesterday, ABS-CBNNews.com likewise reported that President Noynoy Aquino himself went inside the restrooms to check if they were indeed clean. According to the report, "President Aquino first asked the duty janitress if there is someone using the female restroom, and after learning that there was none, (he) went inside."

The report had also quoted Lacierda, who said, "Gusto lang niya talagang makita ang mga improvements sa NAIA 1 (He just wanted to see the improvements at NAIA), the repairs going on. This was an opportune time for him to visit and (conduct) the inspection. It was a spontaneous visit according to Secretary Mar."
