ABS-CBNNews.com-citing presidential spokesperson Atty. Edwin Lacierda-reports that President Benigno Aquino III is set to visit on Tuesday, December 20, the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan in Northern Mindanao, which were hit badly by tropical storm Sendong.

The report also cited the statements made by deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in an interview with radio dzRB. According to Valte, the president "wants to make sure that national agencies and those on the ground have a concerted plan" in response to the crisis.

Valte also defended the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) against allegations that they didn’t give timely warnings. She clarified that the two government agencies "already issued warning signals, specifically in Cagayan de Oro, as early as December 14."

However, Cagayan de Oro City mayor Vicente Emano claimed they "were not warned of the strength of Sendong, which began tearing through Cagayan de Oro and Iligan on Saturday, December 18."
