Asiong Salonga, Maricel Soriano, Dingdong Dantes, Eugene Domingo win big at MMFF Awards

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Laguna Governor ER Ejercito's film Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story won several awards during the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night held on Wednesday, December 28.

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Laguna Governor ER Ejercito's film Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story won several awards during the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night held on Wednesday, December 28.

 

The film bagged a total of eight major awards during the event: Best Picture, Best Director (Tikoy Aguiluz), Best Supporting Actor (John Regala), Best Screenplay (Roi Iglesias and Rey Ventura), Best Production Design, Best Original Theme Song ("La Paloma" by Ely Buendia) , and Best Cinematography (Carlo Mendoza), as well as the Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award.

 

Despite Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow running into some controversy (it was disqualified from four categories), lead actress Maricel Soriano was named Best Actress. Dingdong Dantes of the horror flick Segunda Mano was named Best Actor. Comedianne Eugene Domingo got the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her work in My Househusband: Ikaw na!. Child star Bugoy Cariño was named as Best Child Performer for his role in Shake, Rattle and Roll 13.

 

The float design of Ang Panday 2 during the Parade of Stars held last Saturday was hailed as this year's best float. Under the New Wave category, ABS-CBN talent JM de Guzman of the film "Pintakasi" bagged the Indie Film Best Actor awardfor his role in Pintakasi, while GMA-7 talent Iza Calzado was named Best Indie Film Actress for her work in HIV.

Gender Sensitivity Award - HIV and Speechless (Miriam College)

Lifetime Achievement Award - Eddie Garcia
