Cupcakes for beckies and beckies-at-heart. Click for more.
(SPOT.ph) These days, good tasting treats are not enough to sustain a successful food business-you've got to have a winning concept and stand out from the crowd, too.
The Bekiry, a small cupcake business we spotted on Facebook, is gaining a cult following, thanks to its quirky (and sometimes downright hilarious) inspiration: the becky way of life. Founded by three De La Salle University (DLSU) students, The Bekiry offers becky-inspired cupcakes with unique names and promotional teasers. Take for example one of their bestsellers, the Red Velveloosh (Red Velvet) with the tagline: "That time of the month."
Other flavors include KITty KAT (KitKat) "Gays want to have it, guys want to be in it," iREESestable (Reese’s) "Maglalaway ka sa sarap. Char!," Baby ChaRUTH (Baby Ruth) "Ang Batang Charotera," Twixie Dust (Twix) "Love, Lust, and Twixie Dust," White Chokulit (White Chocolate) "Tall, white, and handsome," Blue Velveloosh (Blue Velvet) "Ang Red Velvet na blue (maiba lang)," Chenes and Cream (Cookies and Cream) "Twist, link, dunk. Alam mo na yan," and Di COKE Keri (Coke) "Maglaladlad na ako!" Cupcakes are priced at P50 to P55 each.
Expect each cupcake to be dense and heavy, with thick and sweet buttercream frosting to complete the fusion of flavors. The chocolate flavors are used sparingly so you don’t get overly sweet, cloying flavors with each cupcake bite. Their version of the Red Velvet cupcake is also a crowd-pleaser-soft, moist, and lightly sweet.
"The Bekiry started as a way for us friends to raise funds for a trip to Boracay. When we saw how others liked our cupcakes, we thought of continuing making them," co-owner Joselle Dela Rosa told SPOT.ph. The Bekiry has no store yet, but you can order through the contact numbers above. Look for Joselle Dela Rosa, Michelle Duguil, or Renzo Navarro.
