(SPOT.ph) In Japanese, there's a term called "mottainai," which is like an expression of "regret at wasting the intristic value of a resource or object." It can be applied to food, even in one's talents or potential, and, in this case, to slightly imperfect objects that are often discarded. Not in MUJI, though, because they're holding a market-slash-initiative that will allow customers to still make use of and enjoy their slightly imperfect products at better prices. Introducing: the Mottainai Market.

This seems to be the first Mottainai Market in the Philippines. To give you an idea of what to expect in this market, customers will see products that have slight blemishes and imperfections "that would not allow for their sale under regular circumstances," at discounted prices.

MUJI's Mottainai Market, which will run from January 23, tomorrow, to February 1, will happen at select MUJI branches nationwide. The market will be on site only, but don't worry, you can get a glimpse of the offers online through a catalog. There will be limited stocks, so once it's gone, it's gone.

You can view the participating items on the MUJI site, as well as their blemishes or if they're old stock or displays, and which branch can you get them from. Here are a few items that we spotted from the catalog.

There's a wide range of essential MUJI items included in the Mottainai Market. From storage solutions, mattresses and pillows, pieces of furniture for every space of your home, like chairs, shelves, cabinets, and a whole lot more. Take, for example, a Sofa Feather Pocket Coil 2.5 Seater High Back, which retails for P44,500 go down to P22,000. It has cosmetic-slash-surface wear.

Looking for a working chair? There's also an Adjustable Working Chair, which was old stock-slash-display go down to P3,500 from P6,950. Coat hangers, too, like the Acacia Coat Hanger (also old stock), are going from P6,450 to P3,500. If you don't mind DIY-ing some of the furniture or the slight cosmetic issues or them being old stocks, the Mottainai Market is a treasure trove.

Do take note that stocks may change in stores, but you can always just shoot your preferred branches a call or message via mobile and Viber (which is also available online).

Another thing to keep in mind is that you will be in charge of your pick-ups. MUJI won't be able to supply any strapping, protective coverings, or loading assistance. You can check the full mechanics and catalog online.
