You've been popping pimples the wrong way your entire life
(SPOT.ph) We're not even going to pretend that we don't pop our pimples—who doesn't? We're not encouraging you to pop those pesky zits either, but since we know you're going to be poking at them anyway, we want you to do it properly, at least. But first, let's be clear: We're talking about popping ripe pimples. There's a proper way to do it!
Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi and Dr. Jennifer Chwalek of Union Square Laser Dermatology shared with Byrdie.com tips on how one should pop stubborn pimples. The most important point: Don't squeeze. Yup, you've probably been squeezing your blemishes using your fingers your entire life and that's not the right way to go about it. Instead, Dr. Chwalek suggests you "express" them a.k.a. use two cotton-tip applicators to remove the top layer of the pimple.
The next step is to exfoliate the zit using a hot wash cloth to let it drain. Then remove the gunk using scooping motions (down, in, and out)—here's a video of how to do it properly. As for cysts...don't touch them. Don't even think about it. "Cysts have a higher risk of scarring, so it's best to leave them alone," Dr. Tanzi says. We recommend green tea as an alternative solution to dealing with inflamed pimples.
Keep these in mind the next time you're tempted to pop a pimple!
