Stream in Style: Cool Speakers for Every Budget
You'll enjoy your perfectly curated playlist even more with these finds.
Gone are the days of ugly dinosaur speakers with wires snaking to (equally ugly) televisions. Thank God (and technology) for wireless, Bluetooth speakers that banish all the cables, and look way much better in the house. Here are six speakers at every price point that tick all the boxes, sound- and design-wise.
Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (P899) from Miniso
We all flock to Miniso for their cute neck pillows and affordable BB creams, but there are dozens of tech gadgets for sale at our favorite discount store. There are cheaper versions of the Miniso speaker (the lowest-priced one costs only P549) but these sleek, metallic cylinders look way better.
Wall Bluetooth Stereo Music Player (P2,999) from Muji
Muji, the purveyor of minimalist living, sells a wall-mounted speaker with a surprising twist: the speaker also doubles as an FM radio. The barebones speaker is a design takeoff from Naoto Fukusawa’s iconic Muji CD player from 2001, and is powered by a pullout cable, and can be operated via smart phone. It’s old-school and new-school at the same time—which is very Muji, we think.
SRS-XB10 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (P2,999) from Sony
Sony gets plus points on design, waterproof features, and its big, booming bass. This chubby little number has an EXTRA BASS feature, where a passive radiator works with a monoaural speaker to enhance the bass tones. The colorways are fab, and range from sunny yellow, red-orange, to sophisticated sage green.
Flip 3 Bluetooth Speaker (P6,495) from JBL
The JBL Flip 3 packs a lot of sound power for a portable speaker that’s just about the size of a large Red Bull drink. Some of its great features: it has ample bass, is splashproof, has 10 long hours of battery life, and it weighs less than a pound, making it ultra-portable.
Break the Bank
Beolit 17 Bluetooth Speaker (price available upon request) by Bang & Olufsen
If you want speakers with pure, modern, and slightly quirky Danish design, Bang & Olufsen has the Beolit 17, which has a handle that slightly alludes to a bucket and to its portability. Quirkiness aside, it has up to 24-hours playback and a speaker design that gives a full-room, all-around sound experience. Plus, it looks fantastic, indoors or out.
Available at BoConcept.
NW700 Sound+ Soundbar (price available upon request) by Samsung
Samsung’s 2018 NW700 Sound+ Soundbar has an ultra-slim design that’s perfect for mounting underneath Samsung’s (equally slim) wall-mounted TVs. This sleek soundbar delivers powerful bass, cohesive soundstage, and impressive clarity.
