(SPOT.ph) Whether you’re heading to the beach, packing for a fun staycation, or just taking a drive out from the city, no road trip is complete without music. Your tracks, albums, and playlists of choice will help set the mood for the whole experience and can often make a simple vacation feel like a scene out of a coming-of-age movie (cue “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap). If you’ve already got all the  tunes lined up for your next big trip out of town, then all you need now is the perfect device for blasting them out loud. Below, we list 10 wireless and waterproof speakers to power up the soundtrack for your upcoming road trip. Not only do these devices let you play your music loud enough to get your heart racing, they’re also built to withstand any accidental spills or drops should you be chilling near a body of water. Trust us, when you’re handing gadgets next to a pool after downing a few beers, you’ll be glad you invested in waterproof technology.

Now before we get to the list, a quick note on waterproof rating: When you buy new electronics—especially handheld items that tend to be exposed to all kinds of environments—you’ll find that they are typically given what is called an IP rating (a.k.a. International Protection rating or Ingress Protection rating). This rating, which is recognized among most tech brands across the world, is composed of two numbers (IP67, IPX5, IP45, and so on.) The numbers following the "IP" are representative of a device’s ability to withstand certain external elements.

The first number (i.e. the "6" in IP67) indicates the level of protection your device has against solid foreign objects like dust, fingers, and flat surfaces. If water resistance is your main concern, you likely won’t have to worry about the first number, but it is good to take note of it if you tend to store your devices in dusty spaces or are prone to dropping them.

The second number, on the other hand, indicates what level of water resistance your device has. For beach trips and pool parties, we suggest sticking devices that have a second digit of six and above, e.g. IP67, IPX6, IPX7, et cetera. Level 6 means your device is safe from water projected by powerful jets—think hoses or heavy splashing—while Level 7 allows for immersion in water up to one-meter deep and 8 means the gadget can be submerged beyond a meter. So go for 6 if you’re mostly worried about splashes and splatters, but choose 7 and above if you’re worried about dropping the speaker into a body of water.
