Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez getting married this year, possibly on December 22
Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez talk to Showbiz Central after announcing their engagement in Party Pilipinas.
Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, 42, and "Asia’s Songbird" Regine Velasquez, 40, are getting married this year, Alcasid revealed in Party Pilipinas on August 8 as reported by PEP.ph. Alcasid said he would not reveal the exact date and venue but PEP.ph reported that the wedding might take place on December 22, as Alcasid "hinted" to Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star.
The annullment of Alcasid’s marriage to Michelle van Eimeren came through on June 21, 2010, the singer-songwriter said in Party Pilipinas. He said van Eimeren was "so happy" when he told her about his impending nuptials. She will attend the wedding along with her new husband, fellow Australian Mark Murrow, and her and Alcasid’s two daughters, Leila and Sarah, reports ABS-CBNNews.com. Alcasid said he would ask for help from Van Eimeren with the flower arrangements since she is a wedding coordinator and a "very good florist" in Australia. Alcasid and Velasquez were present at Van Eimeren’s wedding ceremony in November 2009, reports PEP.ph.
Alcasid told Showbiz Central that they would invite only their close friends and family to the wedding. President Noynoy Aquino, whom the couple campaigned for in the recent elections, will be a groomsman. Megastar Sharon Cuneta has accepted the couple’s invitation, while Tony Award winner Lea Salonga might sing at the ceremony, reports PEP.ph.
The soon-to-be-wed couple told Showbiz Central that they have been engaged for a while but said they could only announce it now. Velasquez said, "The proposal was comedic. He proposed to me while I was eating steak at a restaurant. I choked on a chunk of steak." She said the engagement ring was an heirloom from his mother.
Rumors of Alcasid and Velasquez’ relationship started in 2003 but it was only in 2007 that Alcasid declared his love for Velasquez in YES! magazine, according to PEP.ph.
