Jennylyn Mercado’s fans walk out of MMFF awarding ceremony
According to TV Patrol World, some fans of Jennylyn Mercado walked out of the Metro Manila Film Festival awarding ceremony on Sunday, after Mercado-an early favorite-was not nominated as Best Actress for Rosario. The news crew caught up with a couple of her fans but they refused to comment on the issue.
Mercado told TV Patrol World that she had no expectations on the night of the awarding ceremony. "Mayro’ng konting pressure pero wala akong kaba (There’s a bit of pressure but I don’t feel nervous)."
Ai-Ai delas Alas, who won Best Actress, mistakenly referred to Mercado as a co-nominee in her acceptance speech, reports PEP.ph. "Si Jennylyn ang mahigpit kong kalaban... Jennylyn, para sa ’yo rin ’to. Pasensiya ka na. Tutal, mas matanda naman ako sa ’yo, ibigay mo na ’to sa akin. Ibibigay ko sa ’yo, mas marami next time." ("To Jennylyn, my close competitor, this award is for you. I’m sorry but I hope you can give this to me since I am older than you. Next time, it’ll all be for you.")
Rosario won seven awards including 2nd Best Picture but its director, actor Albert Martinez, did not receive a nod for Best Director. He told TV Patrol World, "Win or lose nanalo na kami (we already feel like winners) because it took us five years to make this film."
