10 Boutique Hotels for Your Romantic Staycation
Try something different for your upcoming Valentine getaway.
(SPOT.ph) The best vacations aren’t always limited to a far off beach or a long drive away from Manila. And because there’s bound to be a lot of traffic on Valentine’s Day, it might be safe to stay a bit closer to home where there’s still a few small pockets of comfort that’s a bit out of the ordinary.
Here are 10 small, non-chain hotels to consider for your upcoming romantic staycation.
The list is not ranked.
The Henry Manila has the right mix of old and new, offering a picturesque venue that’s gaining quite a following since it opened last December. The historic compound has been restored and redesigned with statement art pieces and a lush landscape to be the home away from home (and quite away from the present time, too), while still being close enough to Makati and its neighboring areas. Apart from having some yummy food served by Apartment 1B, you’ll likely find yourself lingering a while longer to visit Avellana Art Gallery and Artelano 11, both located within the same compound, to satisfy your art and design fix.
Be the modern day Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara, and travel back to Old Manila for a romantic weekend at the Bayleaf Intramuros. Housed within the historic walls of Intramuros, it offers a sampling of heritage in its surroundings, complemented by contemporary rooms on the inside. Enjoy the bird's-eye view of Manila's hustle and bustle as you dine at 99 Spoons, the al fresco View Bar, or the quaint Cioccolata where the heavenly churros-and-coffee combination must not be missed.
There are 27 modern rooms encased within the old shell of the Luneta Hotel, which re-opened last year after shutting down in 1987. The hotel harks back to old-fashioned elegance and classic luxury, complete with intricately designed windows, gilded furniture, and warm lights. Make sure to take in the surrounding views (you might even catch the sunset) and remember that you’re standing on something that’s officially protected by law.
In the bohemian district of Malate is the sleek Amelie Hotel Manila. Choose from any of the 70 rooms in the hotel, which feature art deco-inpspired pieces and other visual representations of Manila. Expect nothing but comfort and convenience while there-maybe even try out the roofdeck gym for a quick exercise. It’s near enough to a few historic sights and shopping malls, so you’re within easy access of nearby establishments.
If you’re looking for something a bit more modern, Privato Hotel in Pasig offers a sophisticated ambience, and a rooftop swimming pool to match. There’s a lounge that overlooks the sweeping skyline of Ortigas, as well as Piazza Privato, which is perfect for setting up a romantic mood with its selection of sumptuous Italian dishes. It's also a few steps away from the trendy Capitol Commons and Kapitolyo, if you're up for a gastronomic adventure.
Aruga Serviced Apartments opened last year in July, offering Rockwell's signature exclusivity and luxury mixed with an Asian Contemporary style. You’ll very much feel like a Rockwell resident, with breakfast at Rocky’s at the Rockwell Club as well access to the gym and swimming pool, which are included when you book a studio up to a two-bedroom suite. While there, treat yourselves to some French cuisine at Bistro Du Vin, or sample the specials at Grace Park.
Fraser Place is a haven in the center of the bustling Makati CBD. They offer one- to four-bedroom apartments which are all spacious enough without having to break the bank. A basic deluxe room is already at 100 square meters, leaving enough room for bigger groups, perhaps even a bridal shower. Think of it as playing house for a day (or two), complete with your own living room, kitchen, and other homey amenities. In case you’re willing to splurge, there are larger apartments with a private balcony and in-room Jacuzzi.
Any couple who loves art can now, almost literally, live in it at Picasso. More than the luxurious accommodation, it's the visionary and cutting-edge design that makes for a unique and memorable experience. Get lost in and mesmerized by the vibrant colors and patterns that paint Pablo Picasso's life. If you've always wondered what it's like to live in a museum, you can step into this masterpiece and find out.
If you're big on going green and taking care of Mother Earth, then Azumi Boutique Hotel is for you. It's designed with warm earth tones, wood, and sliding glass doors that create a feeling of open space where couples can fully relax, take a breath, and just enjoy the cityscape. The rooftop is a sensory treat with its 360-degree view of the Alabang skyline and infinity lap pool surrounded by lounge beds.
Bellini Suites is accessible enough via SLEX, but still tucked away on a quiet location which makes you feel like you’re in Batangas or Tagaytay. The resort-like hotel has tennis courts and a well-equipped gym for those who just have to get their workout done, even while on vacation. And since you’re already there, check out Aguirre Avenue or Alabang, and go on a back-to-back food adventure.
