This Eco-Friendly Retreat House in Sagada is Perfect for Budding Artists
Be inspired by Sagada's beauty while learning about new things.
(SPOT.ph) It all started with a wedding. Back in 2007, Bridget Kennedy and Luke Torrevillas were wed, the picturesque mountains of Sagada in the Cordilleras as their backdrop. Ten years later, they are the proud owners of The Seedling, an eco-friendly retreat house and residence for artists.
“Anyone can book a room,” Luke tells SPOT.ph. “We want, however, to attract artists for a residency so they can use it as a homebase to develop and create work,” he continues. It was Luke’s ancestral connections to Sagada that led them to set up shop in the heart of his hometown. The lot of The Seedling is actually right beside his mother’s house and it was originally meant to accommodate local weavers.
The retreat house offers a unique Artist Residency opportunity that lets both local and international artists experience Sagada and be inspired by its environment. Aside from the bedroom the artist will be staying in, there is also a studio with a kitchenette and outdoor dining area where guests can work in private.
To further promote and preserve the beauty of Sagada, The Seedling also has a green initiative that integrates permaculture principles in their accommodation. “Thus far we have incorporated a rainwater tank, greywater system, and some small solar panels for exterior lighting,” Luke shares. He also holds workshops that go hand in hand with their permaculture initiative. The workshops teach the local community how to save money by using composting and turning waste into valuable nutrients.
Rates start at P350++. The Seedling is at A7 House, Nanonoogan, Sagada, Mountain Province. For more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or visit The Seedling’s Wordpress.
