(SPOT.ph) Back in the day—specifically from the 1800s to the 1900s, Calle de Escolta in Manila was the place to be. It would have given today's BGC and Makati a run for their money with all the luxury stores, jewelry and watch shops, restaurants, and theaters that dot the 393-meter stretch.
Nowadays, what's left of this historic financial district are Art Deco buildings that are either on the verge of demolition or—on the flip side—repurposed as mixed-use spaces that still maintain the area's quaint downtown charm. Take, for example, First United Building, which is the home of a coffee shop, a neighborhood bar, a barbershop, and a bazaar. Their newest gimmick? A Sunday activity that showcases vintage cars.
This Sunday habit started on August 18 when vintage car owners put on display a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE, 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, and other cool cars from their garage and on Escolta Street. The weekly activity is sponsored by Folk Barbershop and Retail, First United Building, and The Den.
Cars are on display every Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., "unless it rains hard," Hub: Make Lab says. They’re also calling on fellow vintage cars and bike enthusiasts to join this amazing display.
