(SPOT.ph) August is right around the corner and we've yet to live our lives the way they were pre-COVID-19. With social distancing guidelines in place, attending workshops and classes in person might not be happening anytime soon, but thanks to technology, learning new skills is still possible without heading outside the house. Raring to learn how to style your food so it looks great on the 'gram? Or do you want to create pots for your plants in your down time? This online event might just be what you need: Mark your calendars for #ArtAtHomeFestival, a week-long series of art and fitness classes happening from August 1 to 7. The festival features some of the country's top contemporary artists and experts, and the best part? All classes are free

"We saw that people needed a healthy outlet for their thoughts and emotions, and some were picking up old hobbies again as a way to cope," says Stephanie Shi, one of the organizers of the online festival. They initially offered a few art classes for kids then noticed that adults were commenting on their old posts, saying that they wanted art classes for them, too. "And a question just hit us: Why not make a fair of free art classes, where people can try out different forms of art? We already had the platform for it, and an event like that would certainly uplift spirits."

Rafael Mirafuente, founder of Kuro.pro—which powers #ArtAtHome Festival—adds, "Since the lockdown, we saw all these DIY online classes with Google Form signups, bank deposits, and Zoom invites being sent manually and knew that it doesn’t have to be that complicated."

Most of the activities are suitable for kids, teens, adults, and families, so you can make the classes a bonding activity with the fam. Plus, participants have the chance to win goodies from Skechers, BLK 513, and Hyundai Home Appliances.

The first day of the festival offers a variety of classes that will appeal to artsy types, plantitas, and fitness buffs. On August, 1, you can learn creative journaling from lettering artist Abbey Sy, building succulent pots from ceramic artist Catherine Choachuy, and doodling from artist Kara Pangilinan of Details Ink. You can round up the entire family for a sweat sesh of kickboxing with Christian Eusebio and Aleah Cunningham of Origins Athletics or some basic dance moves for hip-hop with dancer Phim Villanueva, member of UPeepz, a globally renowned dance group.
