(SPOT.ph) Matcha is one of the strongest, most prominent food trends right now, especially if you doomscroll on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. We wouldn’t be surprised if you know someone with a full-blown matcha bar at home–complete with chasen (whisk), chasen yasume (whisk holder), furui (sifter), chashaku (scooper), a carton of milk (or oat milk), and the tin can of matcha. Heck, maybe that someone is you yourself.

In the same vein, you've probably seen one too many creative takes on a matcha latte. One of the versions we've been seeing plenty (and obsessing over) in the past months? Matcha that's topped with a mound of banana pudding. Luckily, for those without their matcha bar or too lazy to make banana pudding, we've rounded up cafés in Metro Manila that have the trendy drink on their menu.

What is the banana pudding matcha latte trend?

The banana pudding matcha latte is pretty self-explanatory: It's an East-meets-West sippable dessert that uses a matcha latte for its base, then gets topped with banana pudding. You can think of it as an ice cream float's distant cousin (who migrated to Japan)—swap the soda for grassy, umami-rich green tea; and the ice cream for a velvety pudding with some cookie component (wafers, ladyfingers, or even crushed speculoos) and slices of banana.

Since this is far from your average matcha latte, it is served with both a straw and a spoon. Want to savor the banana pudding solo? Go ahead and scoop away. Want to get your matcha latte fix? Take a sip, or a swig. Ready to stir it into your tea? That works too, transforming your matcha latte into the thicc-est, creamiest, fruitiest greenest concoction you’ve probably ever sipped.

Slide Coffee cannot not be mentioned in this list—after all, they're one of the most popular cafés that offer the trendy drink. From what we've experienced at their Molito pop-ups, there are always blockbuster queues as soon as they open shop, and based on our experience, the 30-minute wait for the Banana Pudding Matcha Latte is well worth the wait.

Slide Coffee's Banana Pudding Matcha Latte (P275/16oz) uses a ceremonial-grade matcha sourced from Shizuoka, Japan. The whisked tea keeps its earthy profile, with the sweetness coming from the banana pudding topping. The pudding is made fresh, with a generous amount of banana slices, and a drizzle of caramel.

Slide Coffee is at Sacred Heart Street, Makati City. Open from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. There are pop-ups announced on Slide Coffee's Instagram page.

Oh Hey There

Oh Hey There is a matcha café in the south, along Aguirra Avenue, in the ever-exclusive neighborhood of BF Homes. Their famous drinks are the Matcha Latte, Strawberry Matcha, and Sea Salt Matcha—but they do have their own Banana Pudding Matcha too. They use a creamy matcha base using matcha from Kyoto, a thick banana pudding prepared in-house, and Biscoff crumbs for added crunch and flavor.

But Oh Hey There... didn't stop there—they also launched a Strawberry Pudding Matcha. It still has that creamy matcha for its base, but then switches the banana pudding for scoops of their homemade strawberry pudding. If you're over the banana version, this is something new to try.

Oh Hey There is located at 2F, Double E. Brothers Building, Aguirre Avenue, BF Homes, Parañaque City. Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday to Sunday. For more information, check out Oh Hey There's Instagram page.

Oolah Café

If you want a coffee shop that does creative takes on espresso, and matcha-s it's freak with matcha, Oolah Coffee is a relatively new coffee shop in Makati that has more than 20 matcha drink options on the menu. They have classics like a Matcha Latte (P200/Medium, P220/Large), something unheard of like a Matcha Guava Cloud (P255), and the trendy Banana Pudding Matcha (P255/Large).

Their take on the trending fruity matcha drink comes in this vibrant green matcha drink, topped with banana pudding and a very generous coat of crushed biscuits. If the matcha latte-banana pudding ratio isn't to your liking, you can get more banana pudding for an additional P95.

Oolah Coffee is at LG, Cityland III, VA Rufino Street corner Ormaza Street, Legazpi Village, Makati. Open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Follow Oolah Coffee's Instagram page.

Banana Pudding Matcha Latte is already out-of-the-box as it is, but Masa Madre Bakehouse pushes the envelope further with their Croissant Banana Pudding Matcha Latte (P239). This dessert drink uses matcha from Uji—the town in Japan most famous for matcha, no less—and is topped with banana pudding made from scratch. They add a more Masa Madre Bakehouse experience by mixing their signature Crobites (bite-sized croissant pieces) into the banana pudding, and crowning it with more Crobites to offer a contrasting texture to the softness and creaminess.

Masa Madre Bakehouse is at G/F Cocolight Building, 11th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Sunday. For more information, check out Masa Madre Bakehouse's Instagram page.
