(SPOT.ph) Din Tai Fung has come out with different Xiao Long Bao flavors in past years, and usually, it’s during the annual Xiao Long Bao Day. Last year, they had a 10-piece xiao long bao basket; half were core flavors, and the other half were limited-edition flavors, launched from previous Xiaolongbao Days.

But in what feels like a long time coming, the Taiwanese restaurant is finally coming out with a new flavor with a bright purple hue. And if it isn’t already obvious, it’s filled with ube.

Meet Din Tai Fung new ube dim sum

Last year, Din Tai Fung brought back its previous limited-edition Xiaolongbao flavors in one basket. This year, it's giving the dessert dim sum duo a spotlight of its own, pairing the crowd-favorite Chocolate Lava Xiaolongbao with the new bao on the block, Ube Crunch Xiaolongbao. Each basket comes with two pieces of each flavor, though you can also order a basket dedicated to just one.

The new Ube Crunch Xiaolongbao uses the same 18-fold technique, this time wrapping a creamy ube filling with a biscuit crunch in every bite. Meanwhile, the Choco Lava Xiaolongbao, in case you haven't tried it this way, gets even better with a dip in the sea salt cream used in the restaurant's milk tea. The sweet-and-salty combo could work just as well with the ube, too—so go ahead and mix and match.

Din Tai Fung's Birthday Basket will be available across all branches from October 28 to November 26; for dine-in and takeaway transactions only.
