This Filipino Coffee Company Was Named By Monocle as Among the 25 Best Cafés

(SPOT.ph) In its June 2026 issue, dedicated to “Coffee Culture and Collecting,” respected international style bible Monocle named Manila-born coffee brand Harlan Coffee as one of the 25 best cafés in the world. In its story entitled The Next Generation Coffee Shop Owners, part of an 18-page report on the global coffee scene, Harlan is number 2 in the list of “25 of our favorite spots, run by people who deliver great brews, good design and a sense of community.”

In a gathering of cafés that includes shops in Germany, Australia, Greece, Italy and Mexico, Harlan is described as The Urban Oasis. “Catering to on-the-go professionals, Filipino entrepreneur Emmanuel T Pineda’s Harlan Coffee seeks to serve up re-energizing experiences that fit into the rhythms of our working lives,” reads part of the short write-up. The feature also brings up how Harlan has now 20 outlets so far—10 in Manila and 10 in Jakarta—mentions its goal of worldwide expansion, and how its “being rebranded by Winkcreative, Monocle’s sister company.”

The café brand, of course, comes from Harlan + Holden, an apparel and coffee company Pineda founded in Manila in 2015, with both the clothing and the beverage service aimed at “saving people’s time for things that matter,” eschewing trends and choosing timelessness instead, prioritizing thoughtful simplicity and quality over decoration. Hence, the very minimalist slash Brutalist slash space age interiors of its shops.

As mentioned, it’s also undergoing a rebrand. Already, it’s dropped the + Holden in its newest Philippine branch which is called just Harlan Coffee. It opened in Alabang Town Center in May (see the Spot Reel below). It's expected to open another major outlet in the metro soon.
